Gibson Steps

Wander Victoria

Antiseptic

Films: Wander Victoria, Antiseptic
Location: Gibson Steps, Port Campbell National Park
Address: Great Ocean Road, Port Campbell

As you wander down the steps to this spectacular Great Ocean Road beach, spare a thought for local settler Hugh Gibson, who carved all 86 steps into the 70-metre-high cliff face to make the trip possible – enough to send anyone a little stair-crazy.

Down on the sand, find yourself dwarfed by giant limestone stacks rising out of the sea: Gog and Magog, named for fellow giants who were taken to London to serve as porters at the royal palace.

If your knees or the weather prevent you from taking the steps to the beach, there is an accessible viewing platform near the carpark that affords excellent giant-ogling opportunities.
