Forges Beach

Wander Victoria

Catch of the day

Film: Wander Victoria, Call of the wild, Catch of the day
Location: Forges Beach, Forges Bend Track
Address: Forges Pump Lane, Yarrawonga

The broad, sandy beaches along the Murray River are an excellent place to forge a new adventure. Just seven kilometres west of Yarrawonga, Forges Beach is in fact two beaches, imaginatively named Number One and Number Two. The beaches sit on a flood plain forest of River Red gums, billabongs and swamps. Popular with birds, it's a twitchers paradise.

Popular with people too, beach number one is one of the most sought-after spots on the Murray; number two is a favourite for caravaners and anglers. Both can get pretty busy in summer and on public holidays.

The Murray's warm, dry climate makes its beachy banks a top spot for a camping holiday. Peg out your place, drop a line and see if you can reel in Australia's biggest freshwater fish, the Murray cod.
