Bringing together the work of Albert Tucker and Fred Williams, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to view the response of two highly acclaimed Australian painters to a particular region of Australia—the Springbrook Rainforest in the Gold Coast Hinterland—where the artists spent time together in 1971.

Bringing together the work of Albert Tucker and Fred Williams, this exhibition offers a rare opportunity to view the response of two highly acclaimed Australian painters to a particular region of Australia—the Springbrook Rainforest in the Gold Coast Hinterland—where the artists spent time together in 1971.

Tucker had purchased a tract of land at Springbook to protect the area from development and he encouraged Williams to visit and record the distinctive features of the landscape, as he himself had begun to do.

Though the studies that resulted were not developed as major studio paintings by either artist, they represent important developments in terms of their stylistic approach for several years after.
