High Country

  • Razorback Ridge, High Country, Victoria, Australia

The High Country is a region made for lovers of the outdoor life. Discover spectacular mountain scenery, lush valleys and rolling plains on a visit to one of the High Country's national parks and reserves. Walk, cycle, drive and climb through pristine wilderness and see granite cliffs, snowy peaks and plunging waterfalls.

The Alpine National Park is the largest, with some of Australia's most outstanding alpine landscapes. See rocky escarpments, snow gum woodlands and alpine plains and make your way to Victoria's highest and best-known peaks including Mount Feathertop and Mount Bogong. Travel through the region and enjoy views of the snow-capped mountains and sweeping vistas of the green valleys below. Visit in winter to see the striking colours of grey blue snow gums contrasting with the white snow.

The rugged plateau of Mount Buffalo is Victoria's oldest national park and is famous for its massive granite tors, misty waterfalls and cliff-top views.

Other parks offer the opportunity to explore the original Box Ironbark forests and many historic sites that reveal the region's gold rush and early pioneering past.
