From rugged bush trails to spectacular coastal paths, the walks and hikes in the Geelong and Bellarine region are bound to inspire.
Head to the You Yangs and take a hike along one of its many spectacular bush trails. Make you way through a diverse landscape of towering eucalypts and sparse native shrubs, and spot koalas, kangaroos, echidnas and other wildlife along the way.
Travel further north to the Brisbane Ranges National Park and choose from a range of inspiring walks through native bushland. Visit in spring to see Victoria's richest wildflower habitat and keep an eye out for the more than 170 birds that call the park home.
Take an ocean stroll
Whether you're in Point Lonsdale, St Leonards or Barwon Heads, you won't be disappointed by the number of breathtaking ocean walks on offer. Head along a network of walking tracks and take in the changing scenery, from windswept surf beaches to rocky coastal outcrops.
Bellarine Rail Trail
Ride the full 32-kilometre rail trail taking in the changing landscapes of the peninsula or choose a section to walk that's close to home. Take a detour out to local wineries and quaint country cafes as you go or reward yourself with a treat once you've finished your journey.
Up the Barwon River
Walk up to the mouth of the Barwon River, from Barwon Heads or Ocean Grove, and find secluded swimming and fishing spots along the way. Or from Geelong, pack your lunch and head the opposite way. Follow the river through some great local parks, past Buckley Falls, and into Lake Connewarre and explore different walking trails as you go.
From wet to dry
Drive to Blue Waters Lake and the Begola Wetlands, two major inland water features, and find walking trails that pass through a wetland environment teeming with busy birdlife. Alternatively, take some time to explore Steiglitz, a former 1850s gold-mining town and choose from a number of interesting nearby bush walks.
