Spoilt for choice
With more than 800 wineries and 600 cellar doors in 21 distinct wine regions across the state, there is a wine menu for every palette. In the Yarra Valley, have a taste of the estate wines that kick-started Victoria's internationally-renowned wine industry. Next, head to the High Country and sample the Italian varietals, fortifieds, and full-bodied reds that earned this region its reputation for artisanal wines. For top shelf pinot noir, plus chardonnay, pinot gris and pinot grigio, head south from Melbourne to the rolling hills of the Mornington Peninsula.

Family wineries
Smaller, family-owned wineries like those in Geelong, Macedon, and the Bellarine Peninsula offer a unique tasting experience as well. The cooler climate of Geelong and the Bellarine are popular for their production of European style varieties. The Macedon, on the other hand, offers great sparkling wines along with the lush views of nearby mountain ranges.

The vineyards of north-east Victoria fall into five distinct regions – Rutherglen, Beechworth, Glenrowan, King Valley and Alpine Valleys.

The heart of Victoria includes the wine regions of Bendigo, Heathcote, Goulburn Valley, Upper Goulburn and the Strathbogie Ranges.

Western Victoria has four distinct wine regions producing cool-climate wines that are a perfect match with locally made cheese.
